once a DJ always a DJ.. putting music lists together and recording a group of songs that go together on cassettes was and endless hobby growing up. now i can just post some youtube video's instead. here's a little collection i call the 'Top 7 YouTube Rock 'n' Roll Modern Psalms'. most people won't get it.. but i totally do and some might. lyrically, musically, energyly.. these just rock. if you're ever lacking some motivation for some saturday afternoon cleaning, just crank up one of these songs to 11 and watch what gets done. cries for God's help, confessions of weakness, the need for love.. it's all there.. enjoy or be confused.
*for lyrics, click on song title
1. 'Too Many Ways To Fall' - Arc Angels
*Charlie Sexton is probably the best unknown Rock n Roll singer of all time. I'd love to see a movie on his life. He was in the scene since he was 16. His 'Under The Wishing Tree' 1995 release i think was one of the most overlooked albums ever. This song was co-written with Tonio K., who i'm a big fan of as well. The song says it well.. just too many ways to fall.
2. 'Vertigo' - U2
*Bono always gets it right and he's probably the only one that could get away with saying 1, 2, 3, 14. I get a bit of Vertigo once in awhile, looking for the tangible.. but God is teaching me to kneel and depend on Him. Bono writes like David here in the Psalms.. sort of lay the real deal out there and focus back on God in the last line. Killer video.
3. 'Love Revolution' - Lenny Kravitz
*I was going to put Love, Love, Love by Lenny, but i think the video is too provocative. Lenny is prabably a bit jaded by the rock n roll scene.. but he's got a lot of things right, we need some more of God's love that won't let you down. Love Revolution is more of a Christian album that many at Berean.
4. 'Typical' - Mute Math
*Probably the only band i've been excited about in the past 10 years. All the lyrics are amazing and instrumentally they satisfy the A.D.D. tastebuds. i can't stand the typical, but sometimes i am. Some over used tricks in the video, but still way cool the first 20 times i watched it. However they are way long over due for a new CD.
5. 'Message of Love' - The Pretenders
*probably one of the greatest rock bands with not that many albums.. yeah God set it up with Man and Woman! that's good. we all need a helper. Chrissie Hynde hit it big with 'I'll Stand By You', capturing the heart of what love is all about and what every human being craves. I was always amused by the drummers chops and weird looks at the camera.
6. 'Nobody's Fault But Mine' - the 77's
*Mike Roe is an insanely talented guy who's probably manically depressed.. an honest confession and a song taken back from Led Zepplin.. Blind Willie wrote and recorded it in 1927 with these lyrics that the 77's reclaim, stating the struggle of staying consistent in the Bible. Zepplin popularized the changed lyrics in 1976.
7. 'Gimme Shelter' - Ashley Cleveland
*Ashley is probably the only Christian female singer that eats nails for breakfast. Great song of wanting some mercy.. my prayer as well.

Dude, what a list man. I'm totally picking up what you just laid down.
You have seriously been endowed with the gift of musical insight.
this is great, jason! i really like it.
Ok, we're like sort of confused about all of this. Max says that Christians shouldn't listen to songs that aren't Christian. I told him "songs aren't Christian, bonehead, people are". Who's right, me or Max??
gosh Henry.. go ahead make me look immature, like i don['t know that only people are Christian and not songs, duh.. but my mom said if it's not in Berean then it's bad. so you guys are getting the devil in you, i think. i don't know, let me ask my mom.. cuz i don't about this stuff -Max
